News, 9 May, 2006:

I am presently unable to accept new students as I am taking an orchestral position in China and will be in Australia only intermittently for the next few months. For information on other cello teachers in Melbourne please check www.amtr.com.au and www.musicteacher.com.au

Teaching

I have been teaching the cello for over a decade. It is something I thoroughly enjoy and is an important part of my cello career.

Absolute beginners through to highly advanced students are equally welcome, regardless of age.

My fees vary depending on lesson length. Please call or email me for a quote.

Map

I am presently teaching near the South Yarra, Prahran, Toorak, and Windsor suburbs of Melbourne. My home is conveniently located a short walk from either the South Yarra or Prahran train stations (even with a heavy cello). The Melbourne University - Camberwell tram line (72) will bring you even closer.

BulletTimes

As a free-lance musician my schedule is flexible and I am able to accommodate most times including days, evenings, or weekends. I recommend a regular weekly lesson, however this doesn't always suit some people (particularly adult students).I am happy to provide fortnightly lessons, or to schedule lessons on a week-by-week basis for those who require it.

BulletExams

Some students enjoy working at their own pace through pieces which interest them. I am happy to take this informal approach, but for those who are career-minded or simply want to set themselves a goal I recommend taking exams.

There are currently two different examination systems that I teach and recommend: The ABRSM, and AMEB.

BulletABRSM

The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music: ABRSM conducts more exams internationally than all the other music examination boards combined. Their grading system runs from grade 1 for beginners through to FRSM (Fellowship of the Royal Schools of Music) for Doctorate level students.

I encourage students to use this system due to the lucrative scholarships available around the grade 8 to LRSM levels. Higher qualifications in this series are internationally recognized as being the equivalent of a university degree.

BulletAMEB

The Australian Music Education Board: In the last decade this system has gained a fierce following in both Australia and New Zealand. AMEB is similar in structure to the ABRSM exams and offers public performance opportunities for those who achieve the highest marks in each grade.
