Music News & Professional Resources
This page will eventually host syndicated news feed from various sources around the world. But until I actually figure out how to do that please make use of the excellent resources below.
This site contains some of the most up-to-date arts news available in Australia. It also has an arts-centered job seeking service which is a vital tool for anyone wanting an arts career in Australia. The job seek service is powerful, comprehensive and well worth the annual fee.
Staff at artsjournal.com trawl through the daily papers to single out the most relevant arts news of the day. They do a terrific job although there is a heavy bias towards American publications. This is a great site to keep abreast of new directions in the arts world. As well as music they also cover ideas, visual arts, people, theatre, publishing, media, and dance.
International news and media juggernaut, I have a lot of time for the BBC. Their music news page has too many valuable resources to list. I also recommend streaming BBC Radio 3 as an alternative to local Australian radio stations (not that there's anything wrong with them). Their Discovering Music and CD Review programs are usually particularly good.
Noted critic and composer Greg Sandow keeps a blog on the future of classical music which should be compulsory weekly reading for every musician, classical or otherwise. He is currently writing a book on the subject. You can see drafts of the book in progress here.
An amazing resource for all cellists. There forums are a venue for discussions of all things cello. As a favor to the community I am also hosting a few files relevant to forum discussions for the good of all cellists.
The first is a transcription of the Haydn D Major cadenza by Feuermann. Feel free to download this and use it as you wish. |
